(RSVP CLOSED) What we notice shapes what we make.
Led by artist, farmer, and natural dye practitioner Jae Barnes In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore footwear design through the lens of natural pigments, material curiosity, and creative experimentation.
Using reclaimed footwear components alongside indigo pigment grown and extracted by Jae Barnes, participants will experiment with painting, observation, and creative exploration while discovering unexpected connections between natural and manufactured materials—and how those connections can transform the way we experience the materials that surround us. Participants will have access to a temporary Materials Library filled with footwear components that can be handled, compared, painted with, and explored as both tools and materials. Rather than focusing on finished projects, the workshop encourages curiosity, close observation, and a deeper appreciation for the materials that surround us every day.
No previous art or design experience is required.
